McCullough Robertson appoints outgoing QRC Chief Executive Michael Roche

Leading independent Australian law firm McCullough Robertson has reinforced its dominant position in the resources sector, appointing outgoing Queensland Resources Council (QRC) Chief Executive Michael Roche in an advisory role.

Mr Roche’s 40 year career to date has included senior roles in the financial markets, government and of course more than 11 years at the helm of the peak industry body for resources, before announcing his intention to step down later this year.

He will join McCullough Robertson’s Resources Group in February 2017, splitting his time between its Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle offices and providing strategic advice to the firm’s broad client base.

Mr Roche said McCullough Robertson was extremely well regarded in the resources industry and he was looking forward to working with the group to support its growth ambitions and strengthen its client offering.

“McCullough Robertson plays at every level of the resources chain,” Mr Roche said.

“The team embraces the tough, pioneering work of structuring and negotiating projects from the bottom up but is equally comfortable advising governments and peak industry bodies to help shape policy and legislation.”

Head of McCullough Robertson’s Resources Group, Partner Damien Clarke said, in an evolving market, the group was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with a true leader in the field.

“As our client base continues to expand, we look forward to tapping into Michael’s expertise to provide enhanced strategic insight and deliver our clients unmatched advice,” Mr Clarke said.
McCullough Robertson was runner up in the 2016 Australian Law Awards for Energy and Resources Team of the Year.
