Future leaders recognised in 30 Under 30 Awards

McCullough Roberson is well represented at this year’s Lawyers Weekly 30 under 30 Awards with five of our best and brightest vying for recognition as Australia’s best young lawyers.

Congratulations to our five finalists:

  • Naomi Omundson – Mergers and Acquisitions
  • William McCullough – Technology, Media and Telecommunications
  • Michelle Guy – Banking and Finance
  • Emile McPhee – Pro Bono
  • Meg Morgan – Projects, Energy and Resources

Now in its fifth year, the 30 Under 30 Awards aims to uncover ‘leaders of tomorrow’, giving young lawyers the recognition they deserve in striving for professional excellence within their practice area.

The five finalists follow in the footsteps of colleagues Emma Murray and Liam Davis who between them took out the Energy and Resources category for three consecutive years.

Lawyers Weekly publisher William Magee said this year had been very competitive, with an overwhelming number of responses received during the submissions phase.

“The judging panel had a difficult task selecting finalists. For those who have made it to the finalist stage, congratulations, you have secured your place amongst Australia’s top young lawyers,” he said.

Our finalists look forward to the cocktail awards evening on Friday 23 June at the Ivy Ballroom in Sydney.

More about our finalists:

Naomi Omundson takes a lead role in numerous flagship transactions for our corporate advisory team and has helped grow the firm’s start-up practice, advising clients on seed round capital raisings and corporate governance matters. Naomi is on the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland (WLAQ) committee, McCullough Robertson’s Community Partnership Program (CPP) committee, FINSIA’s Young Finance Professionals Committee and is a member of Women in Technology.

Intellectual Property lawyer Will McCullough played an instrumental role in facilitating the launch of a client’s multi-million dollar product, providing direct legal support to in-house legal teams and commercial clients. Will’s natural understanding and enthusiasm for cutting-edge technology coupled with his knowledge of the emerging legal environment allowed him to identify and mitigate risks for the client. Will also provides pro bono legal advice to one of Australia’s leading children’s research charities, assisting to forge international research collaborations to support the successful rollout of a crucial clinical trial.

Michelle Guy specialises in cross border corporate finance transactions and share acquisitions. She recently completed a four month secondment with one of the major banks and is a member of FINSIA and the Banking and Financial Services Law Association (BFSLA). Michelle manages the firm’s sporting committee, encouraging participation in events and inspiring a culture of enthusiasm, teamwork, collegiality and mateship.

Emile McPhee is passionate about pro bono work and manages these commitments on top of his day to day responsibilities as a young lawyer in our Finance Group. Emile champions the firms Community Partnership Program, playing a lead role in coordinating events and sponsorships, pro bono allocations, inductions for new staff and presentations to the firm. Emile is a volunteer Executive Director at the LGBTI Legal Service, a nonprofit, unfunded community legal centre providing legal advice and advocacy for the LGBTI community.

Meg Morgan has played a lead role in signature transactions in the projects and energy and resources space including complicated financing arrangements and overhauls of energy supply arrangements. As part of the resources and renewables group, Meg recently published a series of articles that became the basis of a masterclass series. Meg is a member of the AMPLA Queensland committee, which recently launched AMPLA junior to foster interest and development of junior practitioners in the industry.
