Law firms run together in domestic violence month

Runners from law firms McCullough Robertson, MinterEllison and Gadens were among the thousands of individuals who ran through the night to raise awareness during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.

Setting off at dusk on Wednesday 3 May, runners from each firm tackled the 110km relay, with the last runner crossing the finishing line at around 5am on Thursday morning.

Each kilometre of the 110 kilometres run during the Darkness to Daylight Challenge represents a life lost to domestic violence in Australia each year.

The event was founded by MinterEllison Special Counsel and Australia’s CEO Challenge Board member Robert Reed in 2014 to raise community awareness and promote a clear message that domestic and family violence will not be tolerated in our communities.

“Domestic and family violence doesn’t discriminate – people impacted by it can be found in any organisation,” said Mr Reed.

“Law firms recognise the need to raise awareness of this issue within their own workforce and in the broader community and the participation of so many runners from McCullough Robertson, MinterEllison and Gadens in this year’s Darkness to Daylight Challenge highlighted this in a very visible and tangible way”.

McCullough Robertson plays a lead role in the legal industry, hosting events and sharing its draft policies to support firms who have the desire but not necessarily the infrastructure to help prevent and alleviate the effects of domestic violence in their workplace.

McCullough Robertson and Minter Ellison are currently placed second and third on the leader board in terms of funds raised, with a combined contribution of $15,880. These funds will contribute to the prevention of domestic violence by teaching our community to recognise, respond and refer to domestic violence.

Fundraising continues till the end of May. Please show your support by making a donation.
