Leading independent Australian law firm McCullough Robertson Lawyers announced today the appointment of Stephen Iu as a partner in the national Corporate team.

This appointment supports three key areas of focus for McCullough Robertson:

  • Sydney and New South Wales growth;

  • adding further corporate expertise and depth to the specialist Food and Agribusiness team.

Mr Iu has supported both private and public sector domestic and international clients with mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, commercial transactions and corporate advisory advice for over 15 years, and comes to McCullough Robertson from global firm Norton Rose Fulbright.

Stephen joins national Corporate partners Damien Clarke, Reece Walker, Adrian Smith, Ben Mortimer, Ben Wood, Tim Wiedman, Aaron Dahl, John Kettle, and Andrew Bukowski with his appointment complementing this cohesive team and further strengthening its global cross-border M&A capabilities.

Stephen has worked across a range of sectors including food and agribusiness and will play a key role in McCullough Robertson’s’ specialist Food and Agribusiness team, led by Duncan Bedford.

“As a firm founded nearly 100 years ago to support farmers and graziers, we understand the issues and concerns of the sector better than any other. I am keen to work with Stephen and for our clients right across this sector to be able to draw on Stephen’s expertise to deliver their commercial outcomes and goals.” Duncan Bedford, Head of Food and Agribusiness, McCullough Robertson Lawyers.
The addition of Mr Iu also supports McCullough Robertson’s continued growth plans for their Sydney offering.

“Stephen’s appointment is extremely exciting for our Sydney office, the continued growth of which is integral to the future of McCullough Robertson as we adapt to meet new world challenges and head towards our 100th year and beyond. Attracting quality lawyers and great people is fundamental to our commitment to the success of our clients, and Stephen’s experience working in a technology start-up before becoming a lawyer gives him a unique perspective and keen understanding of client needs.” Damien Clarke, Joint Managing Partner, McCullough Robertson

Kristan Conlon, McCullough Robertson Chair of Partners says:
“I am delighted to welcome Stephen to the partnership. In addition to Stephen’s extensive corporate experience, he is an experienced leader of people and is a great cultural fit for our ‘down to earth’, commercial ‘Big firm without the attitude’. I know he will have a significant impact on the development and success of our people.”
