About Mitchell
Mitchell is a senior lawyer in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution team, with experience in the areas of corporate commercial litigation, property and construction, class actions, energy disputes, breach of contract, negligence and insurance litigation.
Mitchell has particular experience in the financial services, mining and gas, packaging and logistics and pharmaceutical sectors.
He advises clients on class action litigation, and is experienced with clients the target of class action litigation. Mitchell regularly advises on complex and highly contentious disputes related to toxic torts, regulatory investigations, negligence, and claims related to contaminated land issues.
Mitchell has taken leading roles on behalf of ASX listed companies in the defence and prosecution of proceedings in the NSW Supreme Court, Supreme Court of Victoria, those Courts’ respective Courts’ of Appeal and High Court of Australia. Mitchell regularly appears as an advocate in the Superior Courts, including the Supreme Court of Victoria, NSW Supreme Court and the Federal Court of Australia. Mitchell also regularly instructs Counsel in highly contentious and publicised proceedings, and is often called upon to provide advice on reputational and brand protection matters.
Prior to being admitted to practice he worked at Westpac in its securitisation team.

Advising Amcor Pty Ltd in relation to a dispute in the Supreme Court of Victoria arising from the sale of a $120m development in Melbourne, including claims for unidentified contamination at the site and breach of contract.
ASX50 company
Acting on behalf of an ASX50 company in proceedings against an environmental consultant for negligence and misleading or deceptive conduct, pursuant to the Australian Consumer Law, arising from the divestment of a former industrial premises in Alphington in Victoria.
Shareholder and guarantor
Acting on behalf of a shareholder and guarantor in a trial in the Supreme Court of Victoria for breach of contract and guarantees provided in respect to the underwriting of prawn farms operated in Queensland.
Singapore-based property developer
Advising a property developer based in Singapore in highly contentious proceedings brought against them by a major shareholder relating to claims of breach of the takeovers provisions under the Corporations Act.
Australian distributor
Advising an Australian national distributor of photovoltaic solar cells in relation to a regulatory investigation by the Clean Energy Regulator, including the urgent defence of action by the regulator to withdraw its certification for PVC distributed in Australia.
Oil and gas company
Advising an oil and gas exploration company in arbitration proceedings commenced by an oil and gas producer relating to a dispute which arose from the conduct of that producer pursuant to a joint venture under a Farm-In Agreement, Joint Venture Operating Agreement and Subscription Agreement.
