Alex is head of the firm’s technology, media and telecommunications group, and practices across telecommunications, IT, e-commerce and data protection and privacy law with a specialist knowledge of emerging technology such as cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IOT) and artificial intelligence (AI).

He also has significant experience in market competition and consumer protection issues, licensing, regulatory access, complex IT procurement and telecommunications services agreements. From contracts for the development of interactive online portals to supply chain agreements and electronic contracting issues, his clients rely on him for his detailed review of privacy policies and business compliance.

Alex has advised a broad range of listed and unlisted entities, including airlines, airport and critical infrastructure providers, telecommunications providers, software and IT vendors, banking and financial services organisations and public sector clients across regulatory and compliance issues.

With expertise and experience across the full spectrum of cyber security, privacy, and data risk management, including advising on obligations under the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act 2018 (Cth) (SOCI), including registration, notification, and cooperation requirements, as well as compliance with the Cyber Security Act 2024 (Cth).

Advising international clients on Australian consumer protection and data protection laws, helping them navigate EU and US regulations, and implement jurisdictional changes with minimal disruption.

As a trusted adviser in the industry, Alex brings a commercial perspective to legal advice, having spent years working as an in-house lawyer for a national telecommunications carrier, advising on consumer product launches, commercial supply agreements, competition and consumer protection law compliance and privacy issues, and as IT counsel for a listed airline. Alex is known for practical, business-focused guidance on consumer product launches, commercial supply agreements, competition and consumer law compliance, and privacy issues, ensuring legal strategies align with commercial objectives.

Alex is actively involved in the industry, including as a speaker at various events and conferences, and is a member of the Communications and Media Law Association, and the New South Wales Society for Computers and the Law.
