Nathan is an employment and governance lawyer who regularly provides advice to boards, executives and public sector agencies on governance strategies, investigations and inquiries, whistleblower disclosures and officer duties generally.

He is a trusted adviser with sensitive workplace matters including workplace investigations, whistleblower disclosures and employment law issues involving intersecting legal, reputational and regulatory risk. He advises major employers, boards and Commonwealth and NSW government agencies, and provides guidance that carries the institutional fluency of someone who has managed these issues from inside the system.

Governance sits at the centre of Nathan’s practice, advising boards, directors, executives and accountable authorities on the duties they carry, from directors duties and officer due diligence under WHS laws to public sector accountability frameworks. He also builds the frameworks organisations rely on to meet those duties: codes of conduct, delegations manuals, fraud and corruption control plans, and whistleblower programs.

Nathan’s whistleblower practice spans the corporate regime under the Corporations Act and public sector disclosure frameworks, including the Public Interest Disclosures Act 2022 (NSW). His employment law practice covers the full arc of the working relationship, from recruitment and performance through discipline, termination and industrial instrument interpretation. In public law, he advises on complex administrative decision making, privacy and information sharing, and procurement probity.

Nathan has deep legal and practical understanding of effective public interest and for-purpose decision making. He serves on a board subcommittee of a national not-for-profit organisation and sits on the Law Society of NSW Professional Conduct Committee, keeping him close to the ethical standards governing his own profession.

Nathan practised inside government for years prior to joining McR, and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
