With dual degrees in law and information systems and more than 25 years’ experience in legal practice and legal operations, Nicola brings a rare combination of legal, commercial and technical expertise. She works closely with clients and legal teams to design and embed practical, people‑led and technology‑enabled solutions that solve real client problems and deliver sustainable value.
Nicola applies human‑centred design thinking, process optimisation and change management methodologies, supported by carefully selected legal technologies, to transform how legal services are delivered. Her experience spans a broad range of current and emerging technologies, including generative artificial intelligence, machine learning, document and workflow automation, eDiscovery, client portals, and legal knowledge and document management systems.
In her governance role, Nicola oversees the firm’s risk and quality management framework. She balances evolving legislative, regulatory, ethical and client requirements with the need to deliver efficient, high‑quality and innovative legal solutions, ensuring the firm’s services are consistently well‑managed and trusted by clients.
Nicola has led the development and implementation of a range of significant initiatives, including legal project management frameworks, end‑to‑end digital conveyancing platforms and lending management solutions. She has also played a key role in developing and implementing the firm’s generative AI strategy, enabling the safe, responsible and practical use of AI to support clients and legal teams.
Her work has contributed to industry recognition, including McCullough Robertson’s receipt of the 2025 Automation Innovator Award for AI‑enabled automation initiatives and earlier recognition as an Innovative Law Firm by Australasian Lawyer.
Beyond the firm, Nicola is a recognised leader in legal innovation and education. She is a member of the Queensland Law Society Innovation Committee and Chair of the QLS Generative AI and Legal Education Advisory Group, where she works with the profession and clients to share innovation strategies, and identify and support the educational needs resulting from the adoption of generative AI across the legal sector.
Supporting legal teams meet client expectations through the implementation of a practical and effective legal project management framework focused on communication, training and access to appropriate LPM tools throughout the matter lifecycle – planning, execution, and closing.
Delivered online end to end property conveyancing platforms for the affordable housing and property development sectors enabling contract execution, exchange and settlement and allowing clients to access real-time status information and records about their transactions across multiple projects.
Designed and implemented a loans management platform that streamlined the lending workflow and facilitated the timely administration of relief loans and the distribution of funds to support small-to-medium businesses during COVID-19.
Collaboratively developed and implemented a leading AI strategy balancing the need to address risk issues and client requirements with the need to adapt and innovate to leverage appropriate new technologies for the benefit of our clients.
Designed and led the development of an interactive portal ‘Our Client Matters’ to support the delivery of enhanced client experience (CX). The portal collates commitments made to clients to ensure client service standards are met or exceeded including pricing, billing, conflicts management, data and cyber protection.
Implemented NetDocuments generative AI powered applications to simplify and automate routine processes for our clients benefit, helping to earn McCullough Robertson the 2025 Automation Innovator Award.
An integral member of the QLS Innovation Committee and Chair of the GenAI and Legal Education and Advisory group, Nicola helps support and guide the profession adopt and implement the safe and responsible use of generative AI and innovation strategies for sustainable and successful practice.
